Welcome to the Parkway School Technology Webpage!
The Parkway School staff strives to prepare students for the 21st century by utlizing classroom and computer lab technology to engage students in their learning and improve academic achievement! We use SMARTBoards, Student-Response Systems, and Apple iMac/eMac computers in our lab and classrooms. I have been a teacher in the Alliance City Schools for over 30 years. I graduated from Muskingum College with a degree in psychology and a teaching certificate for the elementary grades. I started teaching second grade at North Lincoln School and taught there for 5 years. While there, I earned my master's degree in education from Kent State University. Then I taught fourth (or fifth) grade for 15 years at Rockhill School. I eventually moved to Morgan School and taught fourth, fifth, and second grades for five years. When Morgan School closed, I became a technology resource teacher at both South Lincoln and Parkway Schools. I worked at BOTH schools for 4 years. I continue to do that job to this day, but am now only assigned to Parkway School. I continued to take graduate-level courses over the years to improve my teaching and learn how to use technology in education. I really enjoy using a variety of tech. tools to help our students achieve and to help teachers engage their students in their learning. One of my favorite technology projects is the WPKY morning news. A team of 30 students presents the news each morning on building channel 69. Due to time constraints this year, we can no longer record the news as podcasts for our school website. We have received two $2500 grants from Nike/Jordan Fundamentals to purchase cameras and memory cards for the teachers, two iPods, five usb microphones (for podcasting), a SMARTBoard, software, and a color printer, as well as other items, to use with the WPKY morning news show and various school projects. In the fall of 2009, we also received a $2000 ING grant to help us start our outdoor weather forecaster segment. In February of 2010, our school was named a SMART Showcase School, for our focus on using SMARTBoards and SMART Response Clickers in our classrooms to keep students engaged in learning. Our PTO led several technology fundraisers and PTO and past principal Mrs. Mathie purchased 5 more sets of SMART Response Clickers, as well as a set of 16 iPads for our classrooms. We recently received donations of $772 for iPad cases through the Donors Choose.org website. This year, in addition to my duties as the Tech. Resource Teacher, the WPKY News Director, and as a computer lab specialist two nine weeks during the school year, I am also teaching an SFA (Success for All) reading class (Level 2.1) and am an SFA Team Alphie tutor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
